First Look: Canon EOS C200

Canon has just unveiled the latest member of the Cinema EOS line, the C200, and we were fortunate to receive a sneak peak. Like the name suggests, it sits between the popular C100 and C300 Mark II but brings many notable firsts to the family.

Immediately, the dual SDHC / SDXC card slots are obvious carry overs from the other cameras, but the addition of the CFast 2.0 slot brings a new internal Raw recording option called Cinema RAW light. Coming in at a third of the bandwidth of the Cinema RAW options from the other Cinema EOS bodies, this new flavor of raw recording promises increased quality and image adjustability in a world of fast-paced production. Features like Dual Pixel Auto Focus have been improved with the addition of the touch screen EVF, also a first.

Check out the above video as Jesse Mineo and I talk about the many features of the new C200, which starts shipping in August.

If you’re going to be at Cine Gear, be sure to check out the C200 at the AbelCine booth #157 in the NY Street Exhibits!

I chatted with Paul Hawxhurst about the new updates from Canon. As you might have heard, they are releasing a Canon Log update for their popular DSLR camera, the 5DIV. Customers have been asking for this, and Canon listened. This upgrade must be performed by a Canon factory service center and will cost around a hundred dollars.
